Cookies – Caramel Crisp Bars


Well, I guess my forgetting to talk at all about Ash Wednesday is a testament to how busy I’ve been getting ready for the writing workshop I’m leading next week as well as the fact that I’m working a few more hours at the Library (yay!). It’s really amazing to be able to love what you do, and get paid for it. For that, I am truly grateful.


The theme of Lent, beginning with Ash Wednesday is to look inward, to show humility before God and amend our lives. I know I’m biased, but I loved my husband’s sermon on Ash Wednesday. He talked about what we really should give up–bitterness, the pressure to please everyone, regret, and guilt. It also can be beneficial to give up those “outer” things–like chocolate or meat because we certainly live in a very self-indulgent time. During Lent we focus on themes of humility, prayer, and devotion.

Caramel Crisp Bars

This recipe reminds me of another easy bar recipe, sort of like a toffee that is made with graham crackers, and topped with a sugar/butter mixture and nuts. Delicious!



First, you put down the graham crackers, and then mini marshmallows. Over this is poured melted butter, brown sugar, cinnamon and vanilla. Over the top is sliced almonds and coconut flakes.
