Zoo Day!

Zoo!

Today we went to the Lincoln Park Zoo, a great spot in Chicago. The zoo is free–the only cost is parking. Other than crazy traffic getting there and back, it was a fully enjoyable time. I’m very grateful to our parent volunteers who drove kids there and back. Phew, that traffic was a nightmare! Oh well, it was still definitely worth the trip.

First, we saw a lone polar bear. At first, he was swimming in his pool, and then it was feeding time. He smelled the fish before it arrived.

Here he is sniffing the air.

And here he is chomping on his fish.

It was so nice to see the sun, but it was almost too bright to see if I got the photo right! I almost cut off his head!

Another favorite exhibit was the meerkats. Two or three of them were just lying around, hanging out in the mid-afternoon.

This guy was keeping watch, though.

I don’t remember the name of this primate, but he was making some sweet eye contact with the group.

Here was our group! We had a wonderful group of kids join us for a beautiful breezy day in Chicago.

Better than anything else we saw at the zoo was when the male lion decided to wake up and sit imperiously on his perch. The wind was blowing his magnificent mane, and he seemed to revel in the attention from the crowd.

What a beauty!

Since we were at the zoo all day, I didn’t have time to cook anything, so today’s post will go without a recipe. Hopefully tomorrow!

  1. Did the male lion at the zoo tell you his initials? Maybe something like MGM? Maybe even a big G-R-O-W-L? He’s sure a beautiful creature.
